Prototyping an eID application
For our first big school project previous school year around October - November 2006, we we’re asked to participate in a contest organized by the Belgian government at the time. With the introduction of electronic identity cards, the eID, our task was to think of an application for this card. Our task at school was to showcase our idea(s) using video. I partnered up with Jonas Van Herp and Johannes Govaerts for this one.
After some brainstorms we got to the idea of using eID cards for identification at home. Obvious was that it could be used as an house key, but we thought of other possibilities in the house and selected a few to present.
(Videos after the jump!)
I love working with video, but not having a camera myself and sadly enough not getting the chance to really learn something about it at school (although that’s what’s in their program), made for the fact I couldn’t really do more than basic montages. Although, rather than just making a simple instruction video I decided try and throw in a little magic anyway and of course I’m glad I did it. I’ve learned a lot from those many hours behind the screen.
As a fun extra the video’s are dubbed in Russian by my Latvian neighbor Glebs, subtitles are in Dutch.
Our final result was a Flash application, where we added an intro, some extra information on the subject and a navigation system. The application was made to play from a CD and thus not really optimized for Internet-use (it being 1024-768px). Last night I added a preloader and uploaded it anyway. You can see the result here.
If that isn’t really working out for you, you can watch the video’s (except for the intro) here:
