Who am I? Yes, who am I?

My name is Gunter Blokken. Currently I’m a 21 year-old student Communication & MultimediaDesign (C-MD) at the Media & Design Academie, in Genk (Belgium).

Growing up the computer always attracted me. After years of games, typewriting, drawing in Paint, copying floppies … came the Internet, with that my very first website got launched and I was sure I would go into informatics. Many hours of surfing the Internet in the years that followed, opened my eyes and exposed me to design and art. This making me realize numbers weren’t really my thing, I dropped the informatics idea and decided I wanted to do something more graphic design, multimedia-like.

These days I still love graphic design, video, multimedia and art in general. I’m less into making simple websites like I used to be and like doing projects some more thought and conceptualizing goes into. Also being away from the computer from time to time is great. Time to express myself in more analog ways, I like street art and craftie-things.

My inspiration comes from the many hours behind the screen surfing the Web, street art, music, hip hop, fashion (I’m not a snob in anyway though :)), the many lengthy bus travels, walks in the night, friends and people I work with of course.

What is Eckelwood?

Eckelwood is a brand name I came up with some years ago. Now I want to let it grow into a personal domain to showcase my work, share interests and thoughts and experiment.

The first following step on this blog will most probably be my portfolio. This will still be the place to check if you really want to be up-to-date on my work though, as I’ll only showcase a selection of my work on there.

Other than updates on my work, this blog holds all kinds of stuff. Just things I think are interesting, fun, handy, bizar, loco … Everything gets a chance. A simple link to a website I like or a recommendation to check out an art show, a product review, a video, a question maybe?, … To get a better idea check the categories or tag-cloud on the right.

The views published on this blog are mine personally. I’m not a pro, I’m still learning and eager to do so.
